The government of the Republic of Kazakhstan and the Government of the Republic of Latvia which are hereinafter referred to as "Party"

considering the long, traditional economic relations,

based on provision of the Partnership and Cooperation Agreement,

the establishing partnership between the Republic of Kazakhstan, on the one hand, both the European communities and their state members, on the other hand, signed on January 23, 1995,

wishing to promote on the basis of equality and mutual advantage to development economic and sci-tech cooperation in spheres of mutual interest,

considering that the Republic of Latvia became the member state of the European Union on May 1, 2004,

agreed as follows:

Article 1

1. The parties according to national legal systems and the international obligations of their states, also as well as with contracts between the Republic of Kazakhstan and the European Union, develop and strengthen economic and sci-tech cooperation in all spheres which are of mutual interest.

Application of this agreement by the Republic of Latvia will be performed according to the obligations following from its membership in the European Union.

2. The parties hold consultations for determination of priority industries and new sectors of mutually beneficial cooperation.

Article 2

The sci-tech cooperation is carried out by means of:

exchange of specialists in different industries of scientific and technical activities;

exchange of scientific and technical information;

the organizations of scientific and technological research and developments, other joint activities in spheres of science, technologies and innovations;

the organizations of seminars, discussions, conferences and exhibitions in spheres of mutual interest;

organizations of training and rates;

other forms of cooperation.
