About names of geographical objects
This Law establishes the legal basis of activities in the field of assignment of names to geographical objects and renamings of geographical objects, and also establishments, streamlinings, registration, accounting, use, protection and preserving names of geographical objects as component of historical and cultural heritage of the people of Tajikistan.
In this Law the following basic concepts are used:
- geographical objects – rather steadily existing land educations (mountains, ridges, tops of mountains, the rivers, lakes, water storage basins, glaciers, deserts, other natural territories and similar it objects);
- assignment of the name to geographical objects - the names appropriated to geographical objects which serve for their difference and recognition;
- establishment of names of geographical objects - detection of the existing names of geographical objects, assignment of names to geographical objects and renaming of geographical objects;
- streamlining of the name of geographical objects - the choice of the most used name of geographical objects and determination of style of writing of the name of this object in state language and in language in which it is used;
- The state catalog of names geographical объектовсписок or the list, registration, accounting and preserving the existing names and names appropriated to geographical objects.
The legislation of the Republic of Tajikistan on names of geographical objects is based on the Constitution of the Republic of Tajikistan and consists of this Law, other regulatory legal acts of the Republic of Tajikistan, and also the international legal acts recognized by the Republic of Tajikistan.
