About consular service

This Law determines the legal basis of consular service, function of consular officials by protection of the rights and interests of Turkmenistan, his citizens and legal entities outside Turkmenistan.

Chapter I. General provisions

Article 1

In this Law the following basic concepts are used:

1) consular establishment - the state body on external relations of Turkmenistan founded in the territory of other state for accomplishment of consular functions;

2) the head of consular establishment - person leading work of consular establishment (the consul general, the consul, the vice consul or the consular agent);

3) the consular official - the person holding position of public service in diplomatic representation or consular establishment of Turkmenistan and authorized on accomplishment of consular functions;

4) family members - the spouses (spouse) of the consular official, his children and parents, and also the parents of his spouse (spouse) living together with them and being in their dependence;

5) the consular district - the area allocated to consular establishment for accomplishment of consular functions.

Article 2

The legal basis of activities of consular service the Constitution of Turkmenistan, this Law, the Law of Turkmenistan "About diplomatic service" constitute, other regulatory legal acts of Turkmenistan regulating activities of consular service, and the international agreements of Turkmenistan.

Article 3

The following tasks are assigned to consular service:

ensuring realization of state policy in the field of the consular relations of Turkmenistan with foreign states, protection of the rights and interests of Turkmenistan, his citizens and legal entities outside Turkmenistan;
