Chapter 1. General provisions

Article 1. Coverage of this Law

This Law governs the public relations arising when implementing geodetic and cartographic activities including search, collection, storage, processing, provision and distribution of space data.

Article 2. The basic concepts used in this Law

In this Law the following basic concepts are used:

1) the atlas - the cartographic work consisting of many cards combined by the general program;

2) high-rise reference system - reference system for determination of heights of points of the land surface of rather initial equalized surface;

3) unified digital cartographic basis - electronic information resource which is compound cartographic part of National infrastructure of space data and the systematized set of basic space data on the territory of the Republic of Kazakhstan;

4) geographical information system - the information system providing collection, processing, the analysis, modeling, storage, distribution and other use of space information on Earth about objects of the land surface, natural, technogenic and public processes;

5) geographical information resources - set of electronic bases of space data and metadata;

6) geodesy - area of the relations arising in the course of scientific, technical and productive activity by determination of figure, the sizes and external gravitational field of Earth, coordinates and heights of points of the land surface and their changes in time performed for the purpose of creation of cards and plans and also for providing the solution of different engineering tasks on the land surface;

7) authorized body in the field of geodesy, cartography and space data (further - authorized body) - the central executive body performing management and cross-industry coordination in the field of geodesy, cartography and space data;
