The State Parties of the Commonwealth of Independent States which signed this agreement, hereinafter referred to as with the Parties

for the purpose of ensuring effective fight against crime in the territories of the Parties and successful implementation of tasks of criminal trial,

aiming to provide proper protection of legitimate rights and interests of persons promoting achievement of these purposes

being convinced that coordinated actions of the Parties in fight against crime are the imperative need,

agreed as follows:

Article 1

For the purposes of this agreement the following terms are used:

a) criminal trial - the pre-judicial and judicial proceedings on criminal case performed according to the national legal system of the Parties;

b) protected persons - participants of criminal trial (the victim, the witness, the private prosecutor, the suspect, the person accused, the defendant, their defenders and legal representatives, the convict, justified, and also person concerning whom criminal case or criminal prosecution was stopped, the expert, the specialist, the translator, the witness, and also the teacher and the psychologist, the civil claimant, the civil defendant, legal representatives, representatives of the victim, the civil claimant, the civil defendant and the private prosecutor participating in criminal trial), and also other persons which are subject to protection according to the national legal system of the requesting Party;

c) measures of protection - the measures for safety provided by this agreement and applied according to it concerning protected persons;

d) competent authorities - state bodies which according to the national legal system of the Parties make the decision on implementation of measures of protection within this agreement or perform them;

e) the requesting Party - the state at the request of which measures of protection are performed;

e) the required Party - the state in the territory of which measures of protection are performed;

g) minors - persons who did not reach 18-year age.
