This Federal Law establishes the legal basis of activities in the field of geodesy and cartography.
This Federal Law is directed to creation of conditions for requirements satisfaction of the state, citizens and legal entities in geodetic and cartographic products, and also conditions for functioning and interaction of public authorities of the Russian Federation in the field of geodesy and cartography.
For the purposes of this Federal Law the following basic concepts are used:
geodesy - area of the relations arising in the course of scientific, technical and productive activity by determination of figure, the sizes, gravitational field of Earth, coordinates of points of the land surface and their changes in time;
cartography - area of the relations arising in the course of scientific, technical and productive activity on studying, creation and use of cartographic works which body are cartographic images;
activities in the field of geodesy and cartography (geodetic and cartographic activities) - scientific, technical, productive and management activity in the field of geodesy and cartography;
geodetic and cartographic works - process of creation geodetic and cartographic products, materials and data;
kartografo-geodetic fund - set of the materials and data created as a result of implementation of geodetic and cartographic activities and subjects to long-term storage for the purpose of their further use.
