This Federal Law determines features of legal status of Museum fund of the Russian Federation, and also feature of creation and legal status of the museums in the Russian Federation.
This Federal Law extends to all operating and newly created museums in the Russian Federation and other organizations, and also physical persons, in property, in ownership or in use of which there are museum objects and museum collections.
The legislation of the Russian Federation on Museum fund of the Russian Federation and the museums in the Russian Federation consists of the Constitution of the Russian Federation, Bases of the legislation of the Russian Federation on culture, this Federal Law adopted according to it the Federal Laws and other regulatory legal acts of the Russian Federation, the laws and other regulatory legal acts of subjects of the Russian Federation.
The laws and other regulatory legal acts of subjects of the Russian Federation governing the relations specified in part one of article 1 of this Federal Law cannot contradict this Federal Law.
In case of contradiction between this Federal Law and other act adopted in the Russian Federation this Federal Law is effective.
For the purposes of this Federal Law the following basic concepts and terms are used:
cultural values - the movable objects of material world irrespective of time of their creation having historical, art, scientific or cultural value;
museum subject - cultural value, quality or special signs of which do necessary for society its preserving, studying and public representation;
