Chapter I. General provisions

Article 1. Subject of the law

This law establishes legal status of veterans of war - citizens of the Republic of Moldova, category of veterans of war, regulates their social rights and guarantees.

Article 2. Law purpose

The purpose of the law is fixing of the social rights and guarantees of veterans of war in honor for their merits, dedication and commitment. The law is oriented to support to veterans of war, to members of their families and associations of veterans of war for the purpose of encouragement of their active participation in public life and their involvement in education of younger generation in the spirit of patriotism and commitment to the Republic of Moldova.

Article 3. Legislation on veterans of war

(1) the Legislation on veterans of war is based on the Constitution of the Republic of Moldova and consists of this law and other regulations.

(2) If provisions of this law contradict provisions of international treaties which party is the Republic of Moldova, provisions of international treaties are applied.

Article 4. State policy concerning veterans of war

(The State recognizes 1) and appreciates heroism and dedication of all categories of the veterans of war provided by this law.

(2) the Policy of the state for veterans of war is directed on:

a) complete integration of veterans of war into society and into public life;

b) honoring of memory of veterans of war, dead on duty, and celebration of their dedication and commitment to the Republic of Moldova;

c) providing the rights concerning health and welfare, the medical and public assistance;

d) provision of social services and payments.

(3) Social protection of all categories of veterans of war is priority for the state.
