About exclusive (sea) economic zone of Ukraine
In view of relevant provisions of the Convention of the UN on maritime law of 1982, Ukraine adopts this Law determining legal regime of exclusive (sea) economic zone of Ukraine.
The legislation on exclusive (sea) economic zone of Ukraine consists of this Law and other acts of the legislation of Ukraine which regulate the questions connected with legal regime of exclusive (sea) economic zone of Ukraine.
The sea areas foreign adjacent to the territorial sea of Ukraine, including areas around the islands belonging to it, constitute exclusive (sea) economic zone of Ukraine.
Width of exclusive (sea) economic zone constitutes up to 200 nautical miles counted from the same initial lines as the territorial sea of Ukraine.
Delimitation of exclusive (sea) economic zone is made taking into account the legislation of Ukraine by the conclusion of agreements with the states which coasts opposite or adjacent to the coast of Ukraine, based on the principles and criteria conventional in international law, for the purpose of achievement of the fair solution of this question.
Ukraine in the exclusive (sea) economic zone has:
the sovereign rights on investigation, development and preserving natural resources both live, and lifeless, in the waters covering seabed on seabed and in its subsoil, and also for the purpose of management of these resources and on implementation of other types of activity on economic intelligence and development of the specified zone, including energy production by use of water, currents and wind;
