About the responsible treatment of animals

Accepted by National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia on March 25, 2026

This law governs the relations connected with the domestic and homeless animals, animals used for office, exhibition, sporting or entertaining events in the territory of the Republic of Armenia.

Operation of this law does not extend to agricultural industry (except as specified, provided by this law), hunting, and also to the relations connected with the animals making harmful effects on human life (harmful rodents, insects etc.).

Chapter 1. General provisions

Article 1. The basic concepts used in the law

1. In this Law the following basic concepts are used:

1) pets are animal, stipulated in Item 19 parts 1 of article 3 of the Law "About Veterinary Science" and included in the list established by the Government;

2) vagrant animals individuals not of wild types of fauna who have no content, or the pets who are considered as missing persons;

3) the animals used for display, sports or entertaining actions individuals of wild and not wild types of fauna, used in circuses, sporting and entertaining events, tenders, exhibitions for photography and shootings;

4) the office animals individuals not of wild types of fauna used in the security or search and rescue purposes within authorized tasks of bodies of system of public administration;

5) the animal owner - capable physical person or legal entity is more senior than 18 years which owns, manages or uses the animal used in the house, office, exhibition, sports or entertaining purposes;

6) animals places shelter where feed, treat or contain the homeless lost or the thrown animals, and also animals transferred to temporary content and feeding with the consent of the owner;

7) nursery for animals constructions, specially adapted for animal husbandry and equipped with the corresponding equipment, intended for animal husbandry;
