About approval of the Nation-wide program of preserving and use of objects of cultural heritage for 2004-2010
The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine decides:
1. Approve the Nation-wide program of preserving and use of objects of cultural heritage for 2004-2010 (further the Program) which is attached.
2. To the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine by preparation of drafts of the laws on the Government budget of Ukraine for the corresponding year to provide expenses on implementation of measures, provided by this Program.
3. This Law becomes effective from the date of its publication.

The cultural heritage of Ukraine is integral part of world cultural property. The relations on its preserving are governed by the Constitution of Ukraine, the Law of Ukraine "About protection of cultural heritage", other regulatory legal acts.
Preserving and enhancement of cultural values belong to the priority directions of policy of the state in the field of culture. According to the international conventions ratified by the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine protection of cultural heritage is the international legal obligation of our state to the world community.
This Program is directed to enhancement of legal, organizational and material basis in the field of protection of cultural heritage and expected the period till 2010.
In Ukraine over 130 thousand monuments, from them 57206 - archeology monuments (including 418 national values), 51364 - monuments history (including 142 national values), 5926 - monuments of monumental art (including 44 - national value), 16293 - monuments of architecture, town planning, landscape gardening art and landscape stay on the state registry (including 3541 - national value).
