About names of geographical objects
This Law determines the legal basis of activities in the field of assignment of names to geographical objects in the Azerbaijan Republic, their renamings, refining, the use, registration, accounting and preserving their names.
1.0. The concepts used in this Law have the following values:
1.0.1. geographical objects - complete and rather steady territorial formations of natural and anthropogenous origin: continents, oceans, seas, gulfs, passages, islands, peninsulas, mountains, peaks, woods, rivers, lakes, glaciers, deserts, volcanoes and other natural objects; national parks, natural reserves and other objects such; cities, areas, urban areas, settlements and villages; air and seaports, railway stations;
1.0.2. the name of geographical objects - the names appropriated to geographical objects for the purpose of their identification and distinguishing from each other;
1.0.3. establishment of names geographical objektovustanovleniye of the existing names of geographical objects, assignment of names to geographical objects and their renaming;
1.0.4. refining of the name of geographical object - the choice of the most used name of geographical object and reduction of writing of this name in compliance with regulations of state language of the Azerbaijan Republic;
1.0.5. ekzony - the form of the name of the geographical object which is in the territory of the Azerbaijan Republic, used in foreign languages other than state language of the Azerbaijan Republic.
The legislation of the Azerbaijan Republic on names of geographical objects consists of the Constitution of the Azerbaijan Republic, the corresponding international treaties recognized by the Azerbaijan Republic, this Law and other regulatory legal acts.
