1. Monetary policy of the Republic of Belarus in 2009, as well as in previous years, is directed to creation of conditions for maintenance of high rates of economic growth, accomplishment of indicators of social and economic development of the country and growth in prosperity of the population first of all in the way: ensuring stability of Belarusian ruble, including its purchasing power and rate in relation to foreign currencies; developments and strengthenings of bank system; increases in reliability and safety of functioning of payment system.
2. The main directions of monetary policy of the Republic of Belarus for 2009 are developed taking into account presidential decrees of the Republic of Belarus of June 12, 2006 No. 384 "About approval of the Program of social and economic development of the Republic of Belarus for 2006 - 2010" (The national register of legal acts of the Republic of Belarus, 2006, No. 92, 1/7667) and of January 15, 2007 No. 27 "About approval of the Development program of banking sector of economy of the Republic of Belarus for 2006 - 2010" (The national register of legal acts of the Republic of Belarus, 2007, No. 16, 1/8268).
