of September 4, 2008

Ministers of Foreign Affairs of state members of the Collective Security Treaty Organization are deeply concerned with the military operations taken by the Georgian side in South Ossetia which led to the numerous victims among civilians, death of the Russian peacekeepers and the heavy humanitarian disaster. The tragedy in South Ossetia showed all danger of building-up of military potential in the Caucasian region and attempts of solution by force of the conflicts.

Events around South Ossetia showed also danger of policy of double standards in the international relations. Ministers call all states deliberately and to approach objectively assessment of the situation, not to take actions capable to provoke its further aggravation.

Ministers support active role of the Russian Federation in promoting peace and to cooperation in the Caucasus and support ensuring strong safety for South Ossetia and Abkhazia on the basis of the Charter of the UN, the Helsinki Final act of 1975, international covenants of 1966 and other fundamental documents of international law.

For the purpose of non-admission of new attempts of solution by force of the conflict, providing the world and stability in this region ministers support strict accomplishment of the principles of settlement developed by the President of the Russian Federation and the President of France.
