About liberty of conscience and religious associations
Recognizing and confirming the right of everyone to liberty of conscience and religious liberty, and also to equality of all before the law, irrespective of the relation to religion and from beliefs, that the Republic of Tajikistan is the secular state, showing respect and tolerance to all religions and the religious directions, recognizing special role of the hanafitsky direction of Islamic religion in development of national culture and the spiritual life of people of Tajikistan, this Law is adopted.
This Law, governing the relations in the field of providing and realization of human rights on liberty of conscience and religious liberty, relations of the state and religious associations, determines legal status of religious associations.
The legislation of the Republic of Tajikistan on liberty of conscience and on religious associations is based on the Constitution of the Republic of Tajikistan and consists of this Law, other regulatory legal acts of the Republic of Tajikistan, and also the international legal acts recognized by Tajikistan.
In this Law the following basic concepts are used:
- liberty of conscience - the right of each man and citizen voluntarily and independently to determine the relation to religion, individually or together with others to practise any religion or not to profess any, to freely choose and change religious beliefs, and also to express and extend any beliefs connected with religion and atheistic outlook;
- religious liberty - the right of each man and citizen freely and independently to choose and practise any religion, to participate in church services, departure of religious practices, in religious training;
