The government of the Republic of Belarus and the Government of the Republic of Lithuania, hereinafter referred to as "Contracting parties",

in view of provisions of international treaties which participants are both Contracting Parties,

wishing to promote development and strengthening of mutually advantageous foreign economic and cultural ties between two countries,

realizing value of inland water transport for ensuring these bonds,

agreed as follows:

Article 1

For the purposes of this agreement the following determinations are applied:

"inland waterways of Contracting Parties" - sites of inland waterways of the states of Contracting Parties on which navigation is performed;

"the vessel of the Contracting Party" - any self-propelled or the dumb boat entered in the ship register or other corresponding official list of courts of the state of the Contracting Party and floating under its national flag according to its laws and rules. However this term does not include warships;

"crew member" - person of command structure of the vessel, crew, and also the worker servicing passengers. The crew member shall be included in the muster roll;

"port" - port and another officially the permitted Item of the state of the Contracting Party for servicing of courts, passengers and load handling;

"the navigable organization" - the organization or the entrepreneur performing transportation of goods and/or passengers water transport and registered in the territory of the state of the Contracting Party;

"the vessel of private use" - the vessel of the Contracting Party which follows in bestovarny passenger traffic;

"national legal system" - set of legal acts of the state of each of Contracting Parties. The national legal system of the Republic of Lithuania covers also the legal acts of the European Union applied in the Republic of Lithuania.

"Competent authorities of Contracting Parties":

from the Republic of Belarus - the Ministry of Transport and Communications of the Republic of Belarus;
