The Russian Federation and the Republic of Belarus which further are referred to as with the Parties

being guided by provisions of the Convention on the legal assistance and legal relations on civil, family and criminal cases signed by state members of the Commonwealth of Independent States on January 22, 1993 and Contracts between the Government of the Russian Federation and the Government of the Republic of Belarus on the status of military forming of the Russian Federation from structure of the Strategic Forces which are temporarily placed in the territory of the Republic of Belarus of September 24, 1993,

proceeding from need of mutual legal assistance on civil and criminal cases and cases on administrative offenses,

in view of need of cooperation between competent authorities of the Russian Federation and the Republic of Belarus in questions of rendering mutual legal assistance,

wishing to settle the procedure of production of separate, legal proceedings,

agreed as follows:

Article 1

For the purposes of this agreement the specified terms mean:

a) "competent authorities" - for the Russian Federation - the military courts and bodies of military prosecutor's office of the Russian Federation created for servicing of military forming and also the military commandants of garrisons, commanders of military units (as bodies of inquiry) who are in the territory of the Republic of Belarus

for the Republic of Belarus - courts and bodies of prosecutor's office, internal affairs, bodies of inquiry of the Ministry of Defence of the Republic of Belarus, other administrative authorities in which competence there are questions regulated by this agreement;
