About preserving genetic resources of cultural plants and their rational use

This Law establishes the legal basis of state policy in the field of preserving and rational use of domestic and world genetic resources of cultural plants, including their wild relatives, for production of food and farming, implementation of research, selection and educational activities, and also for ensuring safety of welfare and historical heritage taking into account interests of the present and future generations.

This Law is designed to promote establishment of single approach to activities in the field of collection, preserving, studying and rational use of vegetable resources of agricultural purpose and to promote its regulation. It is accepted for the purpose of development of the legislation in this sphere for ensuring food, ecological and bioresource security of the state, the adjacent countries of the region and the world in general and for decrease in level of hunger and poverty and to growth in prosperity of the people living in the corresponding territories.

Chapter 1. General provisions

Article 1. The basic concepts used in the Law

For the purpose of this Law the following basic concepts are used:

- agrobiodiversity - the biodiversity components used for production of food and farming;

- agroecosystem - the ecosystem which is artificially created for the purpose of receipt of agricultural products and regularly supported by the person (the field, pasture, kitchen garden, garden, protective forest planting etc.);

- bioprospecting activities - carrying out search of samples of genetic resources in places of their natural growth for the purpose of collection of vegetable variety for replenishment of collections, preserving collected material in controlled conditions and its uses in research, selection, educational and other activities;
