This Law establishes bases of legal regulation of activities of the Belarusian Society of the Red Cross, determines forms of support of this Society by state bodies of the Republic of Belarus and feature of their relations.

Chapter 1. General provisions

Article 1. The terms applied in this Law and their determinations

For the purposes of this Law the following terms and their determinations are applied:

the volunteer – physical person, voluntarily and gratuitously on regular, periodic or one-time basis performing works or rendering services within the actions for goal achievement, accomplishment of tasks and realization of the main activities of the Belarusian Society of the Red Cross;

armed conflict – situations as they are determined in articles 2 and 3 of the Geneva convention of August 12, 1949 on improvement of fate of wounded and patients in field armies, articles 2 and 3 of the Geneva convention of August 12, 1949 on improvement of fate of wounded, patients and persons, castaway, from structure of armed forces at the sea, articles 2 and 3 of the Geneva convention of August 12, 1949 on the treatment of prisoners of war, articles 2 and 3 of the Geneva convention of August 12, 1949 on protection of the civilian population during war (further – Conventions), in item 4 of article 1 of the Additional protocol to the Geneva conventions of the August 12, 1949 concerning protection of the victims of the international armed conflicts (Protocol I) of June 8, 1977 (further – the Protocol I) and in article 1 of the Additional protocol to the Geneva conventions of the August 12, 1949 concerning protection of the victims of armed conflicts of not international nature (Protocol II) of June 8, 1977 (further – the Protocol II);
