The Federal Service of forestry of Russia and the Ministry of forestry of the Republic of Belarus which are hereinafter referred to as with the Parties

in view of the Agreement on formation of community of Russia and Belarus of April 2, 1996 and the Agreement on the Union of Belarus and Russia of April 2, 1997,

expressing intention it is consecutive and on long-term basis to develop bilateral cooperation in the field of forestry,

agreed as follows:

Article 1

The parties develop cooperation in the field of forestry on the basis of equality and mutual advantage.

The cooperation purpose - achievement of steady management of forest resources, including complex use of wood and not wood resources taking into account interests of all national groups without prejudice to ecological functions of the woods and their biological diversity.

Article 2

The cooperation is performed in the following main directions:

administrative, legal and economic aspects of management of the woods, and also other questions of forest policy and strategy;

multipurpose use and strengthening of ecological functions of the woods;

preserving biological diversity and genetic resources;

assessment of forest resources;

reproduction of forest resources;

forest conservation from the fires;

protection of the wood against wreckers and diseases;

organization of forest management;

monitoring of forest ecosystems;

forest management in the woods contaminated by radionuclides;

forestry mechanization.

This list of the directions of cooperation can be expanded according to the mutual arrangement of the Parties.

Special attention during cooperation is paid to the questions promoting the solution of global and territorial environmental and forestry and landscape problems.
