being guided by provisions of the Treaty of friendship, cooperation and mutual assistance between the Republic of Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan of January 16, 1996 and the Protocol on creation of the Joint Uzbek-Turkmen commission on trade and economic, scientific and technical and cultural cooperation of November 27, 1996,

for the purpose of further expansion and strengthening of the Uzbek-Turkmen cooperation on the basis of the principles of international law, equality, neighborliness and mutual advantage,

agreed as follows:

Article 1

The parties agreed that the main objectives of the Joint uzbekskoturkmensky Commission on trade and economic, scientific and technical and cultural cooperation (further - the Commission) are:

- consideration of questions and development of the necessary actions aimed at the development of mutually beneficial trade and economic, scientific and technical and cultural cooperation, following from the contracts and agreements signed between the Parties;

- assistance to search and development of the perspective directions of the Uzbek-Turkmen cooperation, including active attraction of financial capital and technologies of the Parties, creation of industrial financial groups, joint businesses and the cooperated productions;

- monitoring of the course of accomplishment of the international treaties signed between the Republic of Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan and other two-way deals in the field of trade and economic, scientific and technical and cultural cooperation, including the decisions made on commission sessions;

- development of offers on expansion and deepening of trade and economic, scientific and technical and cultural cooperation in the areas which are of mutual interest and also to increase in foreign trade turnover between two states;
