This Law regulates legal and organizational basis of the relations in the area concerning drinking water and drinking water supply and establishes the state guarantees on providing the population with drinking water.
The basic concepts applied in this Law:
- drinking water - water on the quality in natural state or after processing (cleaning, disinfecting, addition of missing substances), meeting the established normative requirements, intended for drinking and domestic needs of the person, and also for production of food and medical products;
- standard rates of quality of drinking water (normative requirements) set established scientifically - research methods and the admissible indicators of chemical and microbiological composition and organoleptic properties of drinking water (taste, color, smell, temperature) guaranteeing its safety and harmlessness for health of the person regulated by health regulations;
- drinking water supply - the activities aimed at providing needs for drinking water of physical persons and legal entities;

- centralized system of drinking water supply (water supply system public) - complex of devices and constructions for fence, preparation, storages and supply of drinking water to places of its consumption, open for general use by physical and (or) legal entities;
