This law determines appointment, the legal basis of activities, system, the principles of the organization and activities of the state security agencies, procedure of control and supervision of their activities.
The state security agencies are the special bodies of the executive authority designed to ensure state security of the Republic of Moldova within the competence.
The legal basis of activities of the state security agencies is constituted by the Constitution, this law, other legal acts, presidential decrees of the Republic of Moldova and the order of the Government governing the relations in the field of ensuring state security.
(1) Tasks of the state security agencies are:
a) protection of independence and territorial integrity of the Republic of Moldova, ensuring protection of its frontier, protection of the constitutional system, rights, freedoms and legitimate interests of the personality against illegal encroachments;
b) implementation of intelligence activities for the purpose of ensuring state security;
c) implementation of counterintelligence activities for the purpose of identification, the prevention and suppression of prospecting and blasting aspirations and shares of intelligence agencies and the organizations of other countries, providing system of measures for protection of the state secret;
