The governments of the State Parties of this agreement which are hereinafter referred to as with the Parties

aiming at cooperation increase and strengthening of mutual understanding in questions of studying, development and protection of subsoil in border areas of the Parties,

attaching importance to acceleration of development of productive forces and the solution of social problems on the basis of cost-efficient and ecologically safe development of mineral deposits in border areas of the Parties,

being guided by regulations of the Decision of Council of heads of states of the Commonwealth of Independent States on the Declaration of heads of the State Parties of the CIS on the main directions of development of the Commonwealth of Independent States of April 2, 1999, the Mountain Charter of the State Parties of the Commonwealth of Independent States of March 27, 1997 and the Agreement on cooperation in the field of studying, investigations and uses of mineral raw material resources of March 27, 1997,

agreed as follows:

Article 1

1. This agreement belongs to questions of frontier cooperation of the states on subsoil plots along frontiers of the Parties on the land, in the conditional strip which is in limits of topographical sheets of scale 1:50000, on some sites, under approval of authorized departments of the adjacent Parties, expanded on the area of cross-border geological structures or underground water basins, production of geological works on which can infringe on interests of the Parties.

Problems of ecological safety, rational use and protection of cross-border open water objects and others questions, adjacent to subject of this agreement, are regulated by free standing agreements.

2. The terms used in this agreement have the following values:

frontier - the line and the vertical surface passing across this line, the determining limits of the state territory (sushi, waters, subsoil and airspace);

the adjacent Parties - the states having general frontier;
