About political parties

This Law governs the public relations arising in connection with realization by citizens according to the Constitution of Turkmenistan of the right to creation of political parties and features of creation, activities, reorganization and termination of activities of political parties.

Chapter I. General provisions

Article 1. Concept of political party

The political party is the public association created on voluntary basis for the purpose of participation of citizens of Turkmenistan in political life of society by means of forming and free expression of their political will, participation in elections and referenda and also for the purpose of representation of interests of citizens in public authorities and local self-government.

Article 2. The right of citizens of Turkmenistan to consolidation in political parties

1. Citizens of Turkmenistan are granted the equal rights and identical opportunities for creation of political parties and free participation in their activities are created. Citizens of Turkmenistan on a voluntary basis on the political convictions have the right to create political parties, to enter or abstain in accordance with the established procedure freely from the introduction in them, to take part in activities of political parties and to leave freely membership.

Article 3. Structure of political parties, their purposes and task
