About standardization and metrology

This Law establishes the legal basis and governs the relations in the field of standardization and metrology.

Chapter I. General provisions

Article 1. Concept about standardization and metrology

Standardization is activities for setting standards, rules and characteristics for the purpose of quality assurance of products, works and services according to development of science, the equipment and technology.

Metrology - activities for development of methods and measuring instruments, achievement of their unity and required accuracy.

Article 2. Legislation on standardization and metrology

The legislation on standardization and metrology consists of this Law and other legal acts of Turkmenistan.

The relations in the field of standardization and metrology between governing bodies, legal entities and physical persons of Turkmenistan, and also legal entities and physical persons of other states are regulated:

in case of development, production, realization and operation of products, performance of works and rendering services in the territory of Turkmenistan, and also by deliveries of products to its territory;

by deliveries of products to other states, accomplishment in their territory of works and rendering services.

If the international treaty in which Turkmenistan participates establishes other rules, than those which contain in this Law then are applied rules of the international treaty.

Article 3. Purposes of standardization and metrology

Main objectives of standardization and metrology are:

normative and technical providing products, processes and services;

protection of consumer interests in questions of product quality, processes and services;
