Agreement between the Government of the Republic of Uzbekistan and Government of the Republic of Latvia on mutual assistance in customs affairs

The government of the Republic of Uzbekistan and the Government of the Republic of Latvia which further are referred to as with Contracting Parties

in view of that violation of the customs legislation causes damage to economic and public concerns of their countries, and also to legitimate interests of trade;

understanding importance of ensuring exact determination and charges of the customs duties, taxes and other payments levied during the exporting or commodity import and also the correct application of the provisions concerning prohibitions, restrictions and control;

being convinced that the efforts directed to prevention of violations of customs law, and also ensuring exact collection of import and export duties and taxes will be more effective on condition of cooperation of their customs authorities;

agreed as follows:

Determinations

Article 1

For the purpose of this agreement:

1. The term "customs law" means the provisions stated in the laws or rules concerning import, export and transit of the goods or any other customs procedures connected with the customs duties, other taxes and fees imposed by customs authorities, or measures for prohibition, restriction and control.

2. The term "violation" means any violation or attempt of violation of the customs legislation.

3. The term "customs authority" means for the Republic of Uzbekistan the Head customs authority of the State Tax Committee of the Republic of Uzbekistan, for the Republic of Latvia Customs Department (Muitas departaments).

4. The term "requesting customs authority" means competent customs authority of the Contracting Party which makes request on rendering assistance in customs affairs.

5. The term "required customs authority" means competent customs authority of the Contracting Party which receives request about rendering assistance in customs affairs.
