Contract between the Republic of Kazakhstan, Kyrgyz Republic, Republic of Tajikistan and Republic of Uzbekistan on organization of the Central Asian Cooperation organization

The Republic of Kazakhstan, the Kyrgyz Republic, the Republic of Tajikistan and the Republic of Uzbekistan, the Contracting Parties which further are referred to as,

relying on deep traditions of friendship and neighborliness, historical and cultural community of fraternal peoples of Central Asia,

proceeding from importance of interaction in questions of ensuring regional security and stability, joint opposition to any manifestations of terrorism and extremism, organized crime, drug trafficking,

movable by the aspiration to provide further deepening of interstate cooperation in the field of the political, economic and cultural and humanitarian relations directed to increase in level of living of the people of the region

confirming the commitment to the conventional principles and rules of international law,

noting that the Central Asian Economic Community played important role in social and economic progress in Central Asia and in strengthening of stability and safety in the region,

according to the Tashkent statement of Heads of states of the Republic of Kazakhstan, the Kyrgyz Republic, the Republic of Tajikistan and the Republic of Uzbekistan of December 28, 2001,

agreed as follows:

Article 1. Organization of the Organization

For the purpose of further promotion and diversification of political dialogue, enhancement of forms and mechanisms of regional economic integration, activation of multidimensional cooperation in the field of the political, trade and economic, scientific and technical, cultural and humanitarian relations, Contracting Parties transform Central Asian Economic Community to the Central Asian Cooperation Organization (further - TsAS).

The contracts and agreements which are earlier concluded between Contracting Parties within Central Asian Economic Community, and also the decision of Heads of states continue to be effective in the part which is not contradicting this Agreement.
