About modification of some legal acts of Ukraine concerning strengthening of guarantees of legal professional activity of journalists

The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine decides:

I. Make changes to the following legal acts of Ukraine:

1. In the Criminal code of Ukraine (The sheet of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, 2001, No. 25-26, of the Art. 131):

"Local government bodies and associations of citizens" shall be replaced with words 1) in the name of the Section XV of the Special part of the word "local government bodies, associations of citizens and crime against journalists";

To add 2) with Articles 345-1, 347-1, 348-1, 349-1 of the following content:

"Article 345-1. Threat or violence against the journalist

1. Threat of murder, violence or destruction or damage of property concerning the journalist, his close relatives or family members in connection with implementation by this journalist of legal professional activity -

it is punished by corrective works for a period of up to two years or arrest for a period of up to six months, or restriction of freedom for a period of up to three years, or imprisonment for a period of up to three years.

2. Intentional causing to the journalist, his close relatives or members of the family of beating, lungs or average weight of bodily harms in connection with implementation by this journalist of legal professional activity -

it is punished by restriction of freedom for a period of up to five years or imprisonment for the same term.

3. Intentional causing to the journalist, his close relatives or members of the family of heavy bodily harm in connection with implementation by this journalist of legal professional activity -

it is punished by imprisonment for a period of five up to twelve years.

4. The actions provided by parts one, the second or third this Article, made by organized group -

are punished by imprisonment for a period of seven up to fourteen years.
