About the status of the capital of Turkmenistan

This Law determines the status of the capital of Turkmenistan and fixes legal, organizational and economic conditions of implementation by the city of Ashgabat of tasks of the capital of Turkmenistan.

Chapter I. General provisions

Article 1. Capital of Turkmenistan

1. According to the Constitution of Turkmenistan the capital of Turkmenistan is the city of Ashgabat (further also - the capital).

2. The capital is the political, economic, administrative, scientific and cultural center of Turkmenistan.

3. The capital is the location of the original of the text of the Constitution of Turkmenistan, standards of National flag and State Emblem of Turkmenistan which are stored in the Residence of the President of Turkmenistan.

4. In the capital there are Residence of the President of Turkmenistan, Majlis of Turkmenistan, the Cabinet of Ministers of Turkmenistan, the Supreme Court of Turkmenistan, the ministry and department of Turkmenistan, and also diplomatic representations, consular establishments of foreign states and representative office of the international organizations in Turkmenistan.

Article 2. Status of the capital

The status of the capital - the legal status of the city of Ashgabat caused by the features of the rights and obligations of public authorities of Turkmenistan established by this Law, need of ensuring functioning of the bodies, organizations and organizations specified in part four of article 1 of this Law, and also provision by the state to the city of Ashgabat of the additional guarantees connected with providing capital tasks with it.
