"Academic degrees of the candidate of science, doctor of science are awarded on scientific specialties according to the nomenclature approved by the federal executive body performing functions on development of state policy and normative legal regulation in the field of scientific and scientific and technical activities. The specified nomenclature is obligatory for all academic degrees awarded within the state system of scientific certification.

Academic degrees of the candidate of science, doctor of science are awarded by council on protection of theses for degree of the candidate of science, for degree of the doctor of science by results of public defense of a thesis for degree of the candidate of science or the thesis for degree of the doctor of science.";
