considering earlier reached agreements on cooperation in the field of defense within the Commonwealth of Independent States and on bilateral basis for the benefit of ensuring collective security,

proceeding from need of strict and consecutive accomplishment by the Parties of the agreement obligations about reducing and restriction of strategic offensive arms of July 31, 1991 and to the protocol to it signed in Lisbon on May 23, 1992, the hereinafter referred to as Agreement on the START-1 and the Lisbon protocol respectively

recognizing need of combination of efforts and approval of actions for ensuring reliable joint defense within general strategic space,

expressing the aspiration to give new quality and to provide the legal basis for military cooperation between the Parties,

agreed as follows:

Article 1.

For the purposes of this Agreement the following terms mean:

"Strategic Nuclear Forces" (SNF) - the military forming including connections, parts, organizations, the organizations and objects having the strategic nuclear weapon and parts providing their functioning on the arms or storage.

"The joint military forming" - parts and connections of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation and Armed Forces of the Republic of Kazakhstan which are allocated with the Parties for the solution of tasks of joint defense.
