About preserving agrobiodiversity

The governments of the State Parties of this Convention which are hereinafter referred to as with the Parties, noting features of agroecological capacity of the State Parties of this Convention and possession of the rich agrobiodiversity promoting ensuring food security, creating favorable conditions for life and also to development of economic and other activity, understanding responsibility for preserving agroecosystems and agrobiodiversity for the present and future generations, showing concern about the increasing amounts of negative impact of the intensive technologies on agroecosystems causing them significant damage and leading to reducing and disappearance of agrobiodiversity, understanding special relevance of carrying out the basic and applied researches directed to preserving, studying and rational use of agrobiodiversity recognizing importance of genetic resources of agrobiodiversity for creation of basis of homeland and regional food security, production of food and farming, improvement of quality of life and health of the population, and also mitigation of the consequences of global and regional climate change, recognizing preserving agrobiodiversity as part of common global problem of fair and rational use of bioresources and receipts of the corresponding equal benefits, highly appreciating aspiration of each of the Parties to collateral coordinated actions on collection, preserving, studying and use of genetic resources of plants, animals and microorganisms of agroecosystems, agreed as follows:

Article 1. Purpose

The purpose of this Convention is assistance to ensuring food security of the State Parties of this Convention, to sustainable development of society, improvement of quality of life and health of the population by the organization of cooperation, management and planning in the field of preserving and rational use of agrobiodiversity.
