About the treatment of radioactive waste
This Law governs the relations connected with the activities of legal entities and individual entrepreneurs connected with the treatment of radioactive waste, and also ensuring protection of the population and the environment from adverse effect of radioactive waste.
In this Law the following basic concepts are applied:
- radioactive waste - any physical condition of the material or substance formed as a result of economic activity, containing the radionuclides in the structure or contaminated by them, which is exceeding the established regulations of radiation safety and not subject to further use;
- long-living radioactive waste - radioactive waste which level of release from control of the state authorized body in the field of radiation safety is reached in 300 and more years;
- short-lived radioactive waste - radioactive waste which level of release from control of the state authorized body in the field of radiation safety is reached earlier than in 300 years;
- producers of radioactive waste - legal entities and individual entrepreneurs as a result of whose activities radioactive waste are formed;
- monitoring of radiation condition of storage of radioactive waste - permanent observation of storage of radioactive waste for the purpose of determination of the happening changes for timely elimination of their negative impact;
- The state inventory of storages of radioactive waste - the report of the systematized data on objects for storage or burial of radioactive waste;
- The state register of radioactive waste - consecutive current record of acts of special form of education, physical and chemical structure, amounts, properties, and also transportation, storage and burial of radioactive waste;
